Jounghyun Yoo
I am a postdoctoral researcher in the Department of Medical Engineering at the California Institute of Technology, working in Prof. Wei Gao’s lab.
My research focuses on translational nanorobotics and adaptive biofabrication for precision medicine. I engineer micro/nanorobotic and nanomaterial systems that actively interact with complex biological environments to enable targeted sensing, therapeutic delivery, and tissue modulation.
My current research aims to develop clinically translatable nanorobots capable of overcoming biological and structural barriers, including the blood–brain barrier, dense extracellular matrices, and other restricted tissue interfaces that limit conventional therapeutic delivery. I am also interested in bioadaptive systems that dynamically respond to local biochemical and mechanical cues to achieve more precise and effective therapies.
In parallel, I develop imaging- and AI-guided in vivo biofabrication platforms, including acoustic printing, for the high-resolution patterning of functional biomaterials inside living systems. This work aims to enable minimally invasive construction of therapeutic biointerfaces that can adapt to moving and structurally complex tissues.
My long-term goal is to establish adaptive biomedical systems that integrate nanorobotics and intelligent biofabrication to enable targeted therapy, tissue repair, and regenerative medicine.
